Bike Path to Sestroretsk
The Bike Path to the Gulf
This year brought an abnormally hot June to St. Petersburg. I really wanted to explore the northern outskirts of the city, near the Gulf. Heat, weekend, bicycle—everything aligned!
The whole way, I marvelled at the perfect bike lane running alongside the highway. I was even more impressed that it continues all the way to Sestroretsk. I haven’t checked further yet. Along the path, I encountered many interesting and beautiful sights. Like this cozy tunnel of trees along the way.
I was struck by the preserved wooden houses and similar Russian architecture. One of them stood right by the highway.
On the way to Sestroretsk, I unexpectedly spotted a small fountain near the road—curly and fairy-tale-like.
When I arrived in Sestroretsk, I felt like I was at a real resort. I couldn’t believe my eyes, ears, and other senses. Everything felt like the seaside. It was hard to imagine that such a southern vibe awaited me not far from the city. The beach itself is enormous. I even found a spot untouched by people.
Of course, a Russian beach must have a Russian birch tree. How could it be otherwise? A stunning sight!
Seagulls everywhere, in whole flocks. They behave like city pigeons—flying, climbing, doing whatever they please. Two companions flew into my frame.
Turns out, they have their own guardian. I’m sure it’s a different one every day. They seem to live happily here.
On the way back, it grew darker. White nights reign in June. I managed to witness them over the Gulf too. Complete silence and solitude.
